Lions Lift Off

May 10, 1pm-7pm (Weigh-ins start 11am)

The classic competition is back and open to all levels!

Participate or join the Academy community to cheer on the competitors!

Registration is only $75+tax and is limited to 30 competitors (15 competitors on 35lbs bar/15 competitors on 45lbs bar).

To take into consideration of last March’s incredible attendance (but definitely long time frame) We’ve set a scheduled time frame for when each division will be lifting to be able to accommodate the number of athletes in one day.

Please see the format section on how the day will be planned out!

Format

Lifters will make 3 attempts on both their Snatch and Clean & Jerk lifts throughout the day, ranking against other lifters using the Sinclair formula so that separate weight classes aren't needed.

The following is the planned schedule for the competition to be able to hold it all in one day:

11:30am-12:30pm Weigh in for 35lb bar athletes

12:30-1pm 35lb athletes can warm up

12-1pm Volunteers Set up space

Intro/welcome

1:05-2:15pm 35lb athletes snatch

This allows 90 secs/lift.

2:15-2:25pm 10 min break before C&J (athletes lifting lighter should already be warming up)

2:25-3:35pm 35lb athletes Clean and Jerk

(2:30-3:30 45lb athletes weigh in)

3:35-3:50 35lb athletes scores are tallied

3:50-4:05pm 35lb athletes award ceremony

(3:00-4:00 45lb athletes can start to warm up)

4:05-5:15 45lb athletes Snatch

5:15-5:25 10 min break (athletes lifting lighter should already be warming up for c&j)

5:25-6:35pm 45lb athletes Clean and Jerk

6:35-6:50pm Tally 45lb athletes scores

6:50-7:05pm 45lb athletes Award Ceremony

Registration

During checkout, a form will pop up requesting your anticipated first lifting weight will be for both the Clean & Jerk and Snatch. You can change them on the day of the event however this will help us prepare the event so give us an idea (If you are unsure, a safe bet is about 75-80% of your maxes for those lifts.) We will be collecting bodyweights the day of the competition as it's needed to figure out the sinclair totals which we will use to name a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place lifter (who win bragging rights, and a prize!).

Opting out of weigh-in is available however this will exclude you from potentially placing in the top 3.

Please note that cis and trans lifters are welcome to register and Lions who identify as non-binary can compete in whichever category they feel more comfortable registering in.

When selecting a heat, choose which barbell weight you typically use during lifting.

* If you wish not to have your weight disclosed, you can leave that section blank when you register but you will opt out of placement since weight numbers are required for sinclair rating

FAQ

I’ve never lifted before/I have little experience in the Olympic lifting, can I still compete?

It is best to have some experience in Olympic Lifting as you will most likely be attempting to lift heavy weights while on the competition platform. However, if you wish to participate but take it easy, you're welcome to come see how it feels to lift in this sort of environment!

How will you be scoring the event?

To make it as fair as possible, we will be scoring participants using a Sinclair rating. An algebraic formula that combines bodyweight, total weight lifted (best snatch + best clean & jerk), and a couple other variables. We will then score individuals based on their Sinclair rating.

What sort of clothing should I wear?

Regular gym attire will be fine (if you have a singlet, you can wear it as well but it definitely it not required). We would recommend lifting shoes if you have them! (Again, not a requirement but definitely helpful.)

What should I bring on the day of the event?

We suggest you bring some snacks and a drink with electrolytes for between the snatch and clean & jerk portion of the day.

Are there going to be prizes?

Bragging rights and some small medals will be awarded to the top lifters of the competition. We want this to be a friendly competition between athletes and give everyone a chance to experience what it’s like to be in a lifting competition!
